About Me: the one sentence version…
I am a musical math geek who lives in the midwest U.S.
About Me: In a few paragraphs…
I teach math and have worked on a bunch of different grant-funded projects in recent years (mostly as a data analyst). I also enjoy doing editing, photography, and web design & maintenance.
I have played piano for just about as long as I can remember. I took lessons for 11 years, and in 2005, I reconnected with the piano again (what a great joy…) and practiced faithfully in order to make a piano CD in honor of my piano teacher that was shared with a number of friends and family.
I am an active member of the Lutheran church where two of my great-grandparents were confirmed in the very early 20th century. My faith is always strong and ever-changing. I love to sing hymns, though a number of them can get me choked up for various reasons. Don’t even get me started on the song about the small boat! *sobbing*
I have had significant health problems for all of my adult life, most notably an endocrine disorder caused by vasopressin deficiency (which affects hydration/kidneys) and a blood platelet abnormality that causes poor blood clotting.
Other than that, my life is completely normal.
About my blog title…
The title comes from a math joke that makes algebraists giggle.
What’s purple and commutative? An abelian grape!
That’s it!
